On January 19, 2024, The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) lifted the moratorium and began accepting and processing Forms 13551, Application to Participate in the IRS Acceptance Agent Program again.

They changed the program and application process significantly to include modernized efforts that transformed the prior paper application process to an electronic application process. This change will result in greater efficiencies and will reduce the processing time for properly submitted applications from 120 days to 60 days.

According to their new requirements coming, all new and renewing persons will be required to complete Form 13551 (Application to Participate in the IRS Acceptance Agent Program). In addition, there must be an attached fingerprint card or proof of professional status for each individual listed on Line 5 as an Authorized Representative.

Prior to applying for Acceptance Agent Status, your mandatory Acceptance Agent training taken with us  must be completed and the certificate at the end of the training must be signed and attached to your Form 13551 when submitting it to the IRS. To be valid, the mandatory training certificate must be dated within 120 days of the date entered on Line 22.
